According to the Kaogongji (Book of Diverse Crafts or Artificers' Record), the builder builds the guo (capital city) of 9-li square with each side of its outer wall having three gates. Within the city, there are 9 longitudinal streets and nine latitudinal streets.
By replicating the pattern of the Chinese traditional governmental architecture and incorporating architectural layout of axis + courtyard,
the garden integrates its own traditional aesthetic features with Song's minimalism.
